Dear ESPN, Please cancel Monday Night Football

If you’ve had the misfortune of being a pro football fan this year you have had to suffer through ESPN’s transition to broadcasting Monday Night Football.  ABC, the home of Monday Night Football for the last 30 years, had a storied tradition of football broadcasters save, of course, the stint when they had Dennis Miller calling the play-by-play.  But that was then.

ESPN, in their infinite wisdom, decided that the standard two broadcaster system - used for 30 years by ABC - was outdated so in comes the triple-headed beast of Tirico, Kornheiser, and Jaworski.  The problem with having three people call a football game is that they never shut up.  You can have three broadcasters for a tennis match or three announcers for a golf tournament, but football moves to fast so the end result is a constant stream of noise flooding from the booth for 3 1/2 hours.  I have actually started muting the broadcast.

Misery loves company so I enjoyed hearing Frank Deford’s commentary on the subject.

Have a listen.
