US death toll in Iraq reaches 2,000

a Yesterday the US death toll in Iraq reached 2,000. For the sake of comparison 2,986 were killed on 9/11.

This morning NPR ran interviews of the mothers of two soldiers killed last year in Iraq. Listening to these still grieving mothers reminds me of the momentous personal sacrifice made by individual families on my behalf for a cause I still don’t believe in, which is heartbreaking. Whether you agree with the war or not I think we all owe it to these mothers to accept our share of their burden by listening to their stories.
