Deeply Entertaining

So now everybody knows who Deep Throat is. I’ve got to wonder what the deal is with the daughter persuading her 90 year old dad to finally come forward with his story. One would think that if he’d really wanted to let the cat out of the bag he probably could’ve found a good time to do it over the past 30 years. So I’m wondering what is the angle here? How can somebody make money on this? I expect that I’ll soon be seeing the daughter on all of the morning talk shows telling her second hand account of history. And let’s not forget the tell-all-I-was-told book that’s soon to follow.

I don’t know exactly why but I find the whole thing pretty funny in it’s patheticness. I mean you’ve got the ambulance chasing daughter trying to capitalize on a terrible part of American history before her father dies. You’ve got the two Post reporters that swore to keep their source confidential until after his death that you just know have been been waiting for Felt’s next meeting with Nixon so they could finally tell the story of Watergate – and maybe make a little money in the process – but now Felt’s daughter has gone and pulled the rug out from under them. I guess I’m pretty cynical because I find the whole scene of has-beens and never-weres tripping over each other to get some face time on CNN to tell what they know remember think they are pretty sure they remember about something that happened 30 years ago pretty damn funny.
